OVM Supports the Construction of Astana Light Rail in Kazakhstan

Recently, the most critical project of the Astana Light Rail Transit, the steel arch bridge spanning the Ishim River, constructed by CSCEC and other companies, has been completed. This milestone lays a solid foundation for the rapid progress of the subsequent phases of the light rail project.

The Astana Light Rail project spans approximately 22.4 kilometers with 18 stations and a design speed of 80 km/h. It is the first urban rail project in Central Asia built entirely to Chinese standards and using Chinese equipment, exemplifying the deep cooperation between China and Kazakhstan under the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting their partnership in infrastructure development.

The bridge features a 155-meter basket-handle arch design with both the arch ribs and main girders constructed from steel. OVM provided the OVMGJ15-12 steel cable stays for the bridge, renowned for their compact size, superior fatigue resistance, and exceptional corrosion protection, earning high praise from project stakeholders. Additionally, OVM supplied numerous anchorage systems, expansion joints, intelligent tensioning equipment, and other critical products and services for the entire light rail line.

Beyond this project, OVM has contributed to over twenty projects in Kazakhstan, including the Bukhaterma Reservoir Bridge, the Astana Esil River Bridge, and the Astana Bypass Railway Interchange Bridge. The widespread use of OVM's technology in Kazakhstan has significantly boosted its influence, market share, and international competitiveness.
