OVM is awarded the tender of supplying and installing stay cable system for New Demerara Bridge in Guyana, in May 2024. It is OVM’s first large stay cable bridge project of parallel wire steel cables in south America.
New Demerara Bridge crosses Demerara River in Geogetown, the capital of Guyana, with a total length of 2800m, 4 lanes for 2 directions. The designed speed is 80km/h and designed service life is 100 years. The main bridge is a concrete structure stay cable bridge of 2 pylons and 2 cable planes, it has 136 cables. This project is so far the largest public transportation project in the history of Guyana, the total investment is 260 million US dollars.
Demerara river is one of the most important rivers in Guyana, building of new bridge will bring deep affects. It will improve the transportation and efficiency greatly between two banks , reduce travelling cost for local residents, promote economic development and integration.
