Recently, the main pier bearings of the Yellow River Extra-large Bridge on the Qingyun-Zhangqiu Expressway (Qingzhang Expressway) have been successfully installed, marking a significant milestone in the bridge's construction.

As a key project of the Qingzhang Expressway, the Yellow River Extra-large Bridge, with a total length of 4,669.5 meters and a main bridge span of (195+350+195) meters, has set "three world records":

  • The largest span continuous beam bridge,
  • The first-ever ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC)-steel box hybrid structure,
  • The largest-sized UHPC trough beam.

The main pier bearings of the Yellow River on the Qingzhang Expressway were developed and manufactured by OVM, featuring anisotropic friction pendulum bearings with a maximum load capacity of 10,000 tons. They are the largest load-bearing anisotropic friction pendulum bearings in China.

The anisotropic friction pendulum bearing is a new - type energy - dissipation and isolation device. Here are its key features:

  • It uses the pendulum principle to lengthen the vibration periods of bridge structures in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
  • It can dissipate seismic energy through friction at the sliding interface, thus reducing and isolating seismic impacts.
  • This flexibility in parameters allows for better - tailored seismic protection of bridges.

The successful installation of OVM's bearings on the Qingzhang Expressway's Yellow Bridge showcases their innovation in achieving the maximum load-bearing capacity in China. This achievement not only sets a new record but also highlights OVM's technical strength and industry leadership. The anisotropic friction pendulum bearings provide superior seismic protection, marking a significant advancement in bridge construction technology and setting a benchmark for future projects.
