The Longest Highway Bridge over the Yellow River - The Anluo Expressway Yellow River Grand Bridge Completes the Installation of All Stay Cables

On September 25th, the Anluo Expressway Yellow River Grand Bridge, the longest highway bridge over the Yellow River and the largest steel-structured bridge in China's inland regions, completed the installation of all its stay cables. OVM served as the professional subcontractor for the stay cables, overseeing the entire process. The bridge also holds records in Henan Province for having the largest main span, the tallest towers, and the widest deck among Yellow River highway bridges.

The Anluo Expressway Yellow River Grand Bridge is located in the downstream section of the Yellow River, between Huayuankou and Jiahetan in Henan Province. The total length of the bridge is 15.223 km, with the main bridge spanning 1010 m and a main span of 520 m. It is designed as a double-tower, double-plane cable-stayed bridge with a composite deck. The bridge has a total of 4×23 pairs, or 184 stay cables, utilizing the OVM280 strand cable system produced by OVM. This system provides reliable load-bearing capacity and superior anti-corrosion performance. The stay cables are made of epoxy-coated strands, with a tensile strength of 1960 MPa and a stress amplitude of 280 MPa. The longest individual cable is 283.8 meters, weighing 34.06 tons, and the total amount of strands used exceeds 2500 tons. The bridge also adopts double-helix ribs HDPE Pipe for the stay cables, designed to resist vibrations caused by rain-wind.

Since the OVM professional construction team arrived on-site in August 2023, they have conducted thorough analysis and research to determine the optimal construction plan for the stay cable installation. Processes such as cable deployment, traction, hanging, and tensioning were seamlessly integrated. During the construction, a series of environmental protection measures were implemented to minimize the impact on the Yellow River's ecological environment. The team efficiently coordinated resources, carefully planned tasks, and rationally divided labor. They scientifically refined the process workflow and maintained high-precision control over the cable installation, achieving accuracy at the thousandth level, with real-time monitoring and uploading of cable forces. The successful completion of all stay cable installations has laid a solid foundation for the early closure of the main bridge.

The Yellow River, a time-honored and powerful dragon, carries the profound history of Chinese civilization. With a main span of 520 meters, the Anluo Expressway Yellow River Grand Bridge evokes a sense of romance, with its two towers standing like a pair of lovers by the broad expanse of the Yellow River. The bridge is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2025. Once finished, it will significantly enhance connectivity among cities along the Yellow River, such as Zhengzhou and Xinxiang, and play a crucial role in promoting ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.
